IMMUNOTHERAPY TREATMENTS Immunotherapy vaccines are the only effective treatments that act on the cause or origin of the problem, changing the course of the allergic disease and preventing in many cases the development of asthma. For this reason the WHO (World Health Organization) considers immunotherapy or vaccines with allergens as the only effective treatment for treating the cause of allergic diseases. The treatment consists of administering to the allergic patient increasing doses of the allergen or substance causing the allergic reaction, beginning with a first initiation phase until reaching a maximum or maintenance dose, which is administered for a long period of time. The effectiveness of these treatments is observed in the long term, with a vaccination period recommended between 3 and 5 years. • Subcutaneous Immunotherapy
Subcutaneous Immunotherapy Subcutaneous immunotherapy consists of administration by subcutaneous methods¸ i.e., injections of the allergen (mites, pollen, fungus, epithelia, etc.) causing the allergic process. This administration is done in increasing doses in two phases; a first initiation phase with a variable duration based on the treatment determined by the specialist; and later the treatment continues with a second maintenance phase in which the administration is generally monthly for a period of 3 to 5 years. Although immunotherapy treatment is a long-term treatment, the improvement of the symptoms of the allergic disease manifests earlier. Sublingual immunotherapy Sublingual immunotherapy consists of administering the allergen through the sublingual mucus. This type of treatment requires correct fulfilment by the patient, since the administration is done daily by the patient in their home for a period of 3 to 5 years. Therefore, Diater Laboratories has developed new administration devices that improve the ease and comfort of use. |
